The Progressives are Running
There was a spotlight on progressive candidates during New York's June 2026 primaries. Many were backed by Senator Bernie Sanders, Mayor Zohran Mamdani, local political groups, and thousands of volunteers. Many won their races.
This project was inspired by my friend Chuck Park. Chuck ran a grassroots campaign against an incumbent in New York’s 6th Congressional District. He is featured prominently in these photographs. And though he did not win, he did get over 40% of the vote. It was his first time running for office.
Aber Kawas and Chuck Park co-organize a rally in Elmhurst, Queens. Aber is running for NY Senate District 12, Chuck for the House of Representatives in NY’s 6th Congressional District.
